DC Mayoral Candidate Janeese Lewis George Starts 2026 With Thousands Of DC Donors And Petition Signatures

Washington, DC — Today, DC mayoral candidate Janeese Lewis George announced the first fundraising report of the new year: An estimated 3,660 DC residents donated to her campaign, as of midnight on Jan. 31. Approximately 1,200 of the total DC donors are new donors, contributing since the last fundraising report, in mid-December.

The campaign raised over $252,000 from DC donors, and the most common donation from supporters was $25. Thanks to the DC Fair Elections program, the campaign expects to raise $1.63 million in direct contributions and anticipated matching funds. That means Lewis George is over 36% of the way to the maximum public match.

The fundraising report comes as the campaign is collecting signatures for Lewis George to qualify to be on the ballot. Since the first day of petitioning, on Jan. 23, hundreds of volunteers have collected an estimated 2,000 signatures.

Volunteers braved the cold to collect signatures outside of grocery stores, at farmers markets, and more. On Saturday night, volunteers were spotted at bars and restaurants like As You Are and Comet Ping Pong. The campaign has until March to collect signatures.

JLG volunteers have also spent the last week shoveling the sidewalks of neighbors such as seniors and people with disabilities.

As of Feb. 1, the campaign has 1,500 volunteers and eight endorsements from the following labor unions and community organizations: the transit union ATU Local 689; the airport and property service workers union SEIU 32BJ; the retail food, retail department, and food processing workers union UFCW Local 400; the teachers union, WTU; the hospitality and food service worker union, Unite Here Local 23 and Local 25; Jews United For Justice Campaign Fund, and the DC Working Families Party. The campaign kicked off the year at a 1,200-person launch event at Howard Theatre.

The campaign filed a partial report at midnight on Jan. 31 because DC residents donated late into the night. The campaign will send an amended report later in the week.
