Safe Communities For All

Lewis George will implement a comprehensive public safety strategy that addresses prevention, intervention, and enforcement. It’s an approach she took as Ward 4 Councilmember when addressing crime on Kennedy Street and in Petworth. And it’s the approach she took when she was a prosecutor at the DC Office of the Attorney General. As Mayor, the entirety of her government will play a role in public safety, not just one agency.

A key component of Lewis George’s public safety platform is the creation of Community Hubs–places to bring people and resources together. We all know that DC is resource rich but coordination poor. She will course correct by building on current infrastructure and resources and she will develop Community Hubs within all eight wards. These Hubs, serving families and young people, will be safe, fun and enriching. These spaces will also be centralized locations to connect to city services like job programs and mental health services. The Hubs will partner with community-based organizations, so communities have access to what they need to thrive. Thriving, well-resourced communities are the safest.
