Record-Breaking Number Of DC Residents Donate to DC Mayoral Candidate Janeese Lewis George

Lewis George has raised $733,907 in total donations with anticipated public match, including $120,089 from 1,712 DC residents this period – the most of any DC mayoral candidate.

Washington, DC — Today, Councilmember Janeese Lewis George announced her campaign for DC Mayor broke fundraising records yet again: Over 5,730 DC residents have now donated – the most number of individual DC donors to give to any mayoral primary candidate in modern DC history –exceeding the prior record by more than 2,000 individual DC contributors.

At this moment in the race, Lewis George has the most:

  • Dollars raised
  • DC donors
  • Total donors
  • Endorsements
  • Active volunteers

Since launching in December, Lewis George’s campaign has raised $3.29 million in total contributions and anticipated matching dollars from more than 7,000 donors. The most common contribution amount from supporters was $25. Lewis George is a Fair Elections candidate, meaning donations from DC are matched 5-to-1. The campaign added 1,094 new DC donors since the last filing deadline.

Lewis George’s campaign also knocked over 80,000 doors and is already up on TV, digital, and mail. She launched her first television ad last month, becoming the first campaign to go on air. The ad, titled “Worth Fighting For,” outlines Janeese’s forward-looking agenda focused on public safety, affordability, and reining in Trump and ICE’s takeover of our city. Lewis George also released an ad, titled “Bills Bills Bills,” about her plan to lower residents’ utility bills; it is currently running on digital and streaming. The ad makes clear that she won’t let Pepco off the hook, like her main opponent Kenyan McDuffie has; his campaign is funded by Pepco executives and lobbyists

Lewis George has recently received endorsements from former Attorney General Karl Racine, Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, American Postal Workers Union Local 140, AFSCME Council 20, Care in Action (National Domestic Workers Alliance’s c4), Caribbean-American Political Action Committee, CASA in Action (region’s leading immigrant org), DC Nurses Association, DC Voters for Animals, DC YIMBYs, and Our Revolution national (local endorsed earlier in the race). This brings the total number of endorsements to 50.

Over 4,000 DC residents have signed up to volunteer with our campaign, with over 1,000 having already begun knocking on doors.

As in the past, Councilmember Lewis George’s campaign checked to make sure that it didn’t accept any money from people who have also supported Donald Trump or his MAGA committees. At this time, it appears that Kenyan McDuffie is continuing to rely on Trump supporters and has not refunded any of their contributions.
